To Crawl Or Not To Crawl ...

So, Hailey has been doing this "thing" lately . . . for now we'll call it a moving "thing". I don't call it crawling, perhaps a "low crawl" but not an actual crawl. To me crawling requires being up on all fours and staying on all fours while in motion -- Karl begs to differ, he calls this "thing" Hailey does crawling, so I have captured it as best as I could on camera and am putting it to a vote . . . Is she crawling? Please cast your votes. . .

Hailey's low crawl would earn her high marks at Marine boot camp! Those arms and knees are propelling her rapidly forward while maintaining a low profile - now throw in some mud and you have a honor grad at OCS in the making! She already has the required haircut! I have forwarded this clip to some classmates of mine who are generals and they are reserving her place at OCS in 2029 at Quantico. Hoorah!

Um, can we put the crawling, not crawling argument aside for a moment and address the fact that 1) you are an old lady because you read Southern Living and 2) how cruel is taunting your kid with a magazine? Seriously, Hailey Buggle is in for some issues later. Don't worry, Buggle, Auntie Lisa will buy you some quality couch time for your sixteenth birthday, so you can figure out just how much you blame mommy for everything in life. ;)

Hailey very impressive.Keep crawling like that and you could crawl to Florida by 2010.I'll be waiting.
On the other topic I heard it was Karl who was the Southern living fan! What does that make him.

Still on the Southern living topic, does this mean when you guys come to visit that I need to serve Karl's tea in a china cup and cut the crusts off of the cucumber sandwiches?

Creeping and Crawling

by Dr. Benjamin Spock
reviewed by Robert Needlman, M.D., F.A.A.P.
Creeping--that is, when your baby begins to drag himself across the floor with his arms--can begin any time between five months and one year. Crawling, when your baby gets up on her hands and knees and moves about, usually starts a few months after creeping. Occasionally, some perfectly normal babies never creep or crawl at all; they just sit around until they learn to stand up.

There are a dozen different ways of creeping and crawling, and babies may change their style as they become more expert. One first learns to creep backward, another somewhat sideways, like a crab. One wants to crawl on her hands and toes with her legs straight, another on her hands and knees, still another on one knee and one foot. The baby who learns to be a speedy creeper may be late in walking, and the one who is a clumsy creeper, or who never learns to creep at all, has a good reason for learning to walk early.

Because normal, healthy babies begin creeping and crawling at such widely different ages, it doesn't make sense to talk about delayed crawling. It also doesn't make sense to try to make your baby crawl earlier - in the long run, it simply makes no difference to her later motor development.
