Apples and pumpkins and Daddies, Oh My!

Today is the beginning of Karl's 4 day weekend -- we love 4 days!! It gives daddy and daughter a chance to bond and mommy a break =) We kicked off our long weekend with a trip out to Hopkinsville, KY to the Lovell's Lacy Orchard for pick your own apples and pumpkins. The trip out was spectacular! All the fall foliage is really beginning to come so the hills were a wash of beautiful colors! I was super excited because I have never gone apple picking before -- pumpkin, strawberry, blackberry, yes but never apples. Karl on the other hand is a pro who went all the time back in Virginia with his mom and sisters. So me and Hailey had some learning to do -- good thing we went with daddy! The orchard was really nice and had lots of apple trees, both red and golden delicious. They also do peaches but we missed peach season -- next year! The weather was perfect, even a little on the warm side, the apples, living up to their names, were delicious and the pumpkins were a great bargain too! I got really into the spirit of things and was climbing trees for the bigger apples ... Hailey even joined me up in the tree! Sorry her dress is pulled up but I was holding on to her for dear life -- needless to say having her up in the tree several feet off the ground wasn't MY idea!! After gathering a half bushel (which might I say is a surprisingly large amount of apples) we hung out on the hay wagons ...

and played at the petting zoo

and finally got to go and pick out some pumpkins. We found some really nice looking pumpkins and even a little Hailey pumpkin who I must say was the cutest in the bunch (even if she wouldn't stop playing in the straw long enough to have her picture taken)!!

yes, the nice straw!!! I recall a similar issue when we went to the pumpkin patch. Who wants to look at the camera when there is STRAW to play with?? :-) Looks like you guys had a great day - and I'm glad Karl could join in on the fun, too!!
